CORPUS/CORPORA
Corpus is an amount of texts-stored on a computer-, which have been taken from the real and commun world by differents institutions like Cambridge University that has its own called Cambridge Coprpus. At the beging, all this texts were compilated by hand, however, nowadays with new technology it is faster and easier.
A "textbook Corpus based" means words used in its composition have been taken from a Corpus, which gives us extra information about uses of that vocabulary by native speakers. So it is very important for language teaching having knowledge about it to comprehend new ways of producing messages.
For the same reason, I think could be so useful for my classes learning words that are frequently used by native speakers due to when students listen to a movie or song they will be able to understand what people are saying and, at the same time, to comunicate eficiently their thoughts and feelings.
To conlude, the main Corpus objective is -qualitative and quantitive-to illustrate and discribe what words, collocations and chunks are most used. For this reason, it selects contents according to their frequency. Chilean English teachers should be using Corpus because if a student knows the most frequent words he or she is going to be more able to understand than a pupil knows the less frequent ones, for example.
